Transportation Energy Institute Releases Low Carbon Biofuels Report
In recent years, the Transportation Energy Institute (TEI), earlier known as the Fuels Institute, has issued several research reports on topics like the decarbonization of internal combustion engines, enhancement of internal combustion engine (ICE) efficiency, reduction of emissions, and efficacy of biofuels in emission reduction. Recently, TEI brought out a new report, “Balancing the Benefits of Biofuels,” which examines the possible effect of increased crop-based biofuels production on food’s availability and cost. The report scrutinizes the past allocation of agricultural land for biofuels production, biofuels by-products vs. food production, impact of biofuels on carbon, and biofuels’ cost. The report infers that due to advancements in agricultural technology, productivity has surged faster than demand, leading to decreasing agricultural land use, minimally impacting biofuel cost and food production.
TEI’s latest report and previous one can be accessed on the TEI website (Reports – Transportation Energy Institute). Apart from releasing reports, TEI continues to assess biofuels and is laying out a study plan for a new research project to scrutinize the progress and accessibility of low carbon fuels. This study is expected to shed more light on the feasibility of low carbon liquid fuels currently or potentially in the market and identify what’s required to make them viable and when that may occur.
