SB 382 Blocking Bridge Tolling Proposal Passes Senate, Now Goes To House
A bill that would have the net effect of blocking a proposal pushed by PennDOT to toll nine interstate highway bridges passed the Senate by a 28-19 vote last week.
Senate Bill 382, introduced by Senator Wayne Langerholc (R-Cambria), the chair of the Senate Transportation Committee) was in reaction to opposition that had intensified in the legislature over the tolling plan approved by the Public Private Partnership Board.
This Board had been created to enter into agreements on projects utilizing joint public-private investments but heretofore did not require legislative approval.
All Republican Senators voted for the Langerholc bill, joined by Lehigh Valley Democrat Sen Lisa Boscola. The bill now goes to the House for its consideration.
