Pennsylvania Renews Request EPA Waive RFS Requirements

On May 12, Gov. Wolf renewed his request to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to waive the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) blending requirements to provide relief to refiners in Pennsylvania and other states that are “struggling to remain operational given the current and proposed volume requirements.”

In April, the governors of Texas, Utah, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Louisiana petitioned EPA to waive the blending requirements due to collapsing fuel demand.

As previously reported by SIGMA, 24 U.S. Senators representing agricultural states sent a letter to the President on May 7 opposing the waiver requests, contending that the requests fail to meet the legal requirement of “severe harm” to the economy or environment of a state, region, or the United States.
