PennDOT Adopts FMCSA Waiver On Expiring CDLs And Medical Certificates


The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration recently issued a waiver that allows states to waive until February 28, 2021, the 8-year limit to the validity period of the CDL, 1 year period of the Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), the 14-day waiting period for a CDL test, and the requirement for a medical examination for those drivers that had a valid medical certificate that expired on or after September 1, 2020, including SDLA requirements under 49 CFR 383.73.

PennDOT Then adopted the waiver at the state level prior to the end of 202 which officially makes this effective in Pennsylvania.
