PA House Advances Version Of Energy Choice Bill
The state House this past week advanced House Bill 1947 (O’Neal-R-Washington) that would preempt municipalities from enacting local ordinances that would regulate or prohibit energy use in their jurisdictions.
The legislation, also known as the Ban the Ban bill, was introduced in the House by Representative Tim O’Neal (R-Washington) in October.
Last week the bill was taken up on the House floor at which time opponents of the measure unsuccessfully offered amendments that would have weakened the bill.
The proposal was then referred to the House Appropriations Committee-the next step in the legislative process before the full House would vote on the bill.
Similar legislation– Senate Bill 275 (Yaw-R-Lycoming)– was passed by the Senate in October. Click Here to read the previously reported Express release on Senate Bill 275.
