FTC Hosting Compliance Webinar On Rule Banning Noncompetes

On April 23, 2024, the Federal Trade Commission issued a final rule to ban noncompetes nationwide. The new rule, which will take effect in 120 days, essentially bans non-competes for all workers, finding them “an unfair method of competition – and therefore a violation of Section 5 of the FTC Act.” Multiple legal challenges are being made by business groups who assert that the FTC has brazenly overstepped its authority. PPA members are still urged to understand the current rule. More details on an upcoming FTC webinar can be found below.

  • The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will host an online compliance webinar on May 14, 2024, at 11 AM ET to provide an overview of the FTC’s final rule banning noncompetes, which will include information on how to comply with the rule after its effective date.
  • The FTC invites members of the public to submit questions ahead of the webinar. Questions can be submitted by email at asknoncompete@ftc.gov.
  • A link to the webinar will be available on the day of the event, shortly before the webinar starts via FTC.gov. The webinar will be recorded, and the webinar will be available on the Commission’s website after the meeting.
  • A summary of the rule and a Business and Small Entity Compliance Guide are available on the FTC’s website.
