Energy Choice Legislation Reported Out Of House Committee

Last week, the House Local Government Committee reported out Senate Bill 275 (Yaw R-Lycoming) entitled Energy Choice legislation to the full House for consideration.

This proposal would prohibit local governments from regulating or prohibiting specific energy sources (natural gas, heating oil, propane) use within their jurisdictions.

A companion bill, House Bill 1947 (O’Neal R-Washington) passed the House earlier this year.
The movement of Senate Bill 275 is seen as putting the legislation in position for negotiation as part of the state budget process.

Environmental groups and some local government associations oppose the concept.

PPA has been strongly pushing for its passage.
