U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin
(D-IL) and Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden (D-OR), along with Rep.
Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) and several other lawmakers, introduced the Tobacco
Tax Equity Act of 2021 which would increase the federal tax rate on cigarettes,
pegging it to inflation and setting the federal tax rate for all other tobacco
products at this same level.
