2023 Year in Review

Thank you for another year of continued support. The success of our organization is directly related to the number of energy marketers we represent across the state. The PPA is more effective as an advocate for your business with the collective support of industry stakeholders working together to achieve positive outcomes.

2023 was the start of a new two-year state legislative session and brought on unprecedented dynamics in Harrisburg politics. Our House of Representatives flipped to a slim Democratic majority for the first time in over a decade. This majority wavered throughout the year with various special elections and forced the Shapiro administration to attempt to juggle the agenda of our Republican controlled Senate. Our split state government’s lack of bipartisanship will transfer into the 2024 session where we anticipate more focus on energy and environmental policy. The PPA will continue to be at the forefront of protecting the interests of the liquid fuels industry in the new year.

I am also happy to report that the association is continuing to invest and pursue efforts to expand workforce development within the energy industry. PPATEC (Pennsylvania Petroleum Association Technical Education Center) completed our second year operating as a licensed PA Department of Education trade school that is also approved for the use of GI Bill® benefits. This designation has resulted in more individuals entering our industry through PPATEC and will position the association for future growth opportunities.

As we enter into the new year, please mark your calendar for the following 2024 membership events. We experienced strong membership engagement this year and hope to continue to grow these events in the future.

• Clay Shoot for Scholarships, April 4
• Eastern Energy Expo, May 19 – 22
• Summer Leadership Conference, June 9 – 11
• Golf Outing (co-hosted with Women in Energy), October 15
• Fall Energy Conference & Annual Meeting, October 15 – 17

On behalf of the entire team at the PPA, we very much appreciate your continued membership and support of our industry.
